The Dog Obedience Group formed Angels With Pawz in 2004 in association with Grace Hospice. Teams from Angels With Pawz visit hospice patients in nursing facilities and in their own homes to add some comfort to their lives. Many patients respond very positively to a dog's touch. Patients that have not spoken or reacted for a long time, often respond more to dogs than they do to people. The dog and handler teams find the experience very rewarding. D.O.G. evaluates dogs and owners interested in becoming therapy teams. We take care of evaluating the dogs, veterinary paperwork, and the paperwork required at each visit. Grace Hospice provides required TB testing, Hepititis B vaccinations (optional), and required criminal backgrounds checks in both Missouri and Kansas. Dogs must be examined by a veterinarian annually and be re-evaluated by D.O.G. annually. There is no charge for D.O.G. evaluations. Evaluations are performed on an "as needed" basis.
